Haiku: Capturing Moments in Nature

Haiku: Capturing Moments in Nature Online

April is National Poetry Month. Have you ever wondered if you could write your own poetry? An effective way to start is with a short and simple form of poetry called haiku. A haiku is a poem which consists of three lines and traditionally evokes images of the natural world. Its easy rules and endless possibilities make it an universally popular form of poetry. Join Connecticut poet Jennifer Y. Montgomery Thursday, April 21, 2022, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm for a free virtual presentation titled “Haiku: Capturing Moments in Nature”. Ms. Montgomery will take you on a journey through the history of haiku and other forms of Japanese micro poetry.

By attending Ms. Montgomery’s workshop, you will learn the basics of writing haiku. Each haiku presents a season and a single moment in nature. Like a snapshot. Think about your favorite season and get inspired to write your own haiku. Jennifer Y. Montgomery is a writer, artist, storyteller, attorney, and pie baker who lives in Connecticut with her daughter. Her poems have appeared in Poetry Quarterly and other journals.

This virtual program is sponsored by the Friends of the Hamden Library. The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. Please register with this link here. After signing up, you will receive a meeting link by email.
