Learn why to compost — and how — with a Master Composter

Let’s help get food and yard debris out of the waste stream and into the earth — where it belongs. Connecticut Master Composter Caroleen Frey will give us all the details: how to get started, how to maintain a healthy compost, what setups are available; and will encourage all of us to do our part to recycle and reuse our food and yard waste.

If you are interested in getting started composting right away, be sure to take advantage of Hamden Public Works’ offer of discounted composters for residents. The pickup date for composters is Saturday, April 24, 1-3 p.m. at the Middle School, and you must order in advance. Call the Recycling Coordinator at 203-287-7021 or e-mail jderisi@hamden.com for more information about this program.

Not ready to compost yet? You can take your kitchen scraps to the Hamden Transfer Station, where dedicated bins are taken to a commercial composting facility and converted into electricity and soil amendments.
