Descriptions of Volunteer Opportunities

Readers - Open to all ages and families are encouraged to read together. Readers read a selection from their favorite African American writer [author, poet, religious figure, judge, politician, teacher, speechwriters, family lore orally transmitted, self...etc.]. Readings are limited to about five minutes. The library can help provide reading material. Also a special how to read aloud session for readers will be held in late May. Reading is done on Saturday, June 13.

Ambassadors - Help spread the word about this annual event which honors 400+ years of African American voices. This Read-In recognizes the civil rights actions of the 20th century, which helped to desegregate public libraries throughout the U.S. Work is done before the event.

Decorators - This is a celebration! Help dress up the library for the event. Done the day before and day of the event.

Registrars - Register and help readers the day of the event. Work is done in two hour shifts the day of the event.

Greeters - Welcome library patrons to the event and guide visitors to the Read In or the hospitality room. Help staff the hospitality room. Work is done in two hour shifts the day of the event.
