Jane Austen's 250th Birthday Gift Basket Raffle
One of England's greatest authors, Jane Austen, was born 250 years ago on Dec. 16, 1775.
In commemoration of Jane Austen’s 250th birth anniversary on Dec. 16, 2025, we will raffle off a gift basket at Miller Library with various Jane Austen related items, including beautiful editions of her novels, books about Jane Austen and the Regency era, tea, a vintage tea cup and saucer, etc.
To participate in the free raffle, please come to Miller Library between Monday, Nov. 17, 2025 and Monday, Dec. 15, 2025 and fill out a raffle ticket at the info desk. The drawing will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, Jane Austen's 250th birthday.
Funding for the gift basket is provided by the Friends of the Hamden Library.
About Jane Austen (Dec. 16, 1775-July 18, 1817)
Jane Austen's novels endure because of their popularity with readers for their witty and astute observations, captivating drama and evocative portrait of everyday life in the towns and countryside of Regency England. Jane Austen completed only six official works during her short lifetime. She died at only 41 years old in 1817.
