Propagating Pollinator Plants From Seed with Jim Sirch and Betsy Goldberg In-Person
Expand your native plantings by growing them yourself from seed. In this workshop, we will discuss which plants can successfully be started outside in the beginning of winter. Then we will each create our own mini "incubator" with a selection of seeds of plants native to CT. Most materials will be provided but please bring a clean, empty gallon milk jug if you can. This event is free and open to the public. It is funded by the Friends of the Hamden Library. Registration is recommended.
Jim Sirch is the Educational Coordinator at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, a certified CT Master Gardener and a board member of his local land trust. He authors a weekly nature blog: www.beyondourbackdoor.net. As a trained naturalist, he brings a deep understanding of geology, plants and wildlife and how they interact within a particular ecosystem. He holds a B.S. in Forestry from West Virginia University, a B.S. from Miami University in Science Education; and an M.S. in Environmental Studies Administration from Antioch University. He is also the 2014 Sigmund Abeles Award recipient from the Connecticut Science Teachers and Supervisors Association for outstanding science teaching and professional development.
Betsy Goldberg is a certified CT Master Gardener and coordinates the Hamden Library's Seed Library. She received her Master of Science in Library and Information Science (MSLIS) from Simmons College.
