A Story of Slavery in Connecticut: Presented by the Mattatuck Museum In-Person

Join us for a presentation from the Mattatuck Museum of Waterbury based on their permanent exhibit, Fortune's Story.

Fortune was an African American man enslaved in a Connecticut farming community in the 18th century. This is the story of his life, the world he lived in, and what happened to his skeleton after he died. The Hamden Public Library is grateful to host a program that acknowledges and educates our community about the history of slavery in Connecticut, and how that history impacts Connecticut to this day.
