This is How it Always Is Book Discussion In-Person
Celebrate and kick-off summer book discussions with the Hamden Public Library as we read and discuss Laurie Frankel’s 2017, New York Times’ Bestselling novel This is How it Always Is. This is a hybrid discussion, meaning participants may attend in-person in Miller Library’s First Floor Program Room, 2901 Dixwell Avenue, or via Zoom, on Monday, June 26th at 6:30 pm.
This award winning book, This is How it Always Is is a story of family connection and strength, the recognition of identity, and the transformative power that children can have on the world. Rosie and Penn are the loving parents of four sons and weren’t surprised to welcome another boy into their family. Five year old Claude is a sweet, sensitive, and determined boy who has different interests than his four brothers; he enjoys wearing dresses, playing with dolls, and wants to grow up to be a girl. As Rosie and Penn accept and love their son unconditionally, their family secret stays hidden from the world; until one moment of truth unravels in profound and life-altering ways. Praise for This is How it Always Is includes the following from Bookpage magazine: “This beautiful story is deeply personal, a heart-rending glimpse of an author writing her way to understanding.”
Interested? Copies of This is How it Always Is are available at the library and downloadable books are available on Libby (formerly Overdrive) with your Hamden library card. Town residents may obtain a library card at any of the library branches.
